Dhaka, April 20, 2026: In recognition of outstanding dedication to arts, culture and a strong commitment to social responsibility, a felicitation ceremony titled “Honouring Vision and Commitment” was held at the auditorium of Stamford University Bangladesh. The event was graced by the Honourable Vice-Chancellor of Stamford University Bangladesh, Dr. Sharif Nafe As-Saber, as the Chief Guest. Among others present were the Treasurer, Registrar, Proctor, Deans of various faculties, Chairpersons and Heads of Departments, faculty members and students.
The ceremony honoured two distinguished personalities for their outstanding contributions in the fields of arts and education. Mr. Kamruzzaman Balark (OAM) was recognized for his remarkable contribution to theatre and performing arts. Beginning his artistic journey in Bangladesh, he later established himself in Melbourne, Australia, where he has played a significant role in promoting Bengali theatre and culture in the diaspora. In recognition of his contribution, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).
Dr. Mahiuddin Abdul Ahad was honoured for his significant contribution to education and social development. Through the establishment of the Ahad Family Education Fund (AFEF), he has been supporting talented students from underprivileged backgrounds, enabling them to continue their education. His initiative has made a meaningful impact by creating opportunities for many students to pursue their academic goals.
The programme commenced with a welcome address delivered by Professor Abdul Mannan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Science. This was followed by audio-visual presentations highlighting the works and contributions of the honourees.
Citations were presented outlining the achievements and impact of both distinguished guests. The citation for Mr. Kamruzzaman Balark (OAM) was presented by noted theatre personality Jhuna Chowdhury, while the citation for Dr. Mahiuddin Abdul Ahad was presented by Ekushey Padak-winning recitation artist Bhashwar Bandyopadhyay. These were followed by the formal presentation of crests and honours.
In their speeches, both honourees shared their experiences and emphasized the importance of cultural engagement, education and social responsibility.
In his address, the Chief Guest, Dr. Sharif Nafe As-Saber, highlighted the importance of such initiatives in inspiring students and fostering a sense of responsibility towards society.
The event concluded with closing remarks by Ferdous Alam Siddique, Acting Chairman of the Department of Film & Media. The programme was hosted by actress Zinat Sanu Swagata and organized by the Department of Film & Media of Stamford University Bangladesh.
